In Memoriam: Richard Driscoll, Chair of HQIP Board of Trustees
We are sad to announce that Richard Driscoll, the Chair of the HQIP Board of Trustees, passed away last Saturday, 21 October, following a heart attack.
Representing National Voices, Richard was a member of our Board of Trustees for six years, serving the last three years as Chair.
Richard had been the CEO of the former National Association for Crohn’s and Colitis (now Crohn’s and Colitis UK), served as a Trustee of the British Society of Gastroenterology and also worked as an independent healthcare consultant on projects such as the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Registry.
Following a hugely busy career, Richard was looking forward to spending more time with his wife and family. His death, so sudden and so early, is particularly sad. Richard will be remembered by all at HQIP as an incredibly supportive and involved Chair, with a warm smile, always keen to engage with and hear from others both personally and professionally. We are immensely grateful for the time he spent with us.
HQIP medical director Professor Danny Keenan commented:
“We are all very sad at the passing of a very quiet, yet very influential person. HQIP devotes a lot of its effort into assuring that patients are receiving effective care. As such, it was truly inspirational to have Richard, as a patient representative, chairing our organisation. His impact was huge and he leaves a powerful legacy for patient involvement at HQIP.”
Richard facilitated the election of a new Chair at our AGM earlier this month. At that meeting, our incoming Chair, Professor Dame Donna Kinnair, thanked Richard for his strong leadership, noting that HQIP had developed both in capacity and in reputation during his tenure. The Chair and Board members, our Chief Executive Officer and staff extend our condolences to his wife Aviva, sons Adam, Sam and Johnny and his three grandchildren. Richard will be greatly missed.
