NCEPOD call for topics is now open
Published: 09 Aug 2016
NCEPOD is commissioned by HQIP on behalf of NHS England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands to undertake the Medical & Surgical Clinical Outcome Review Programme.
Those wishing to submit a study proposal should complete the study proposal form and return it to NCEPOD by 23 September 2016. For further information and topic proposal forms, visit the NCEPOD website.
Topics for this programme can be suggested by anyone who suspects there is a concern about the quality of care being provided to patients. The open call for topics ensures that all voices are heard, which may include policymakers, patients, healthcare professionals and funding bodies. The confidential enquiry method used provides a systematic process of multidisciplinary review of all or a sample of defined cases occurring in a defined period of time. Comparisons of care are made against guidelines or best practice where guidelines have not been developed. The review aim is to assess the quality of care provided in each case so as to inform future practice and improvements in care which may make a difference to future outcomes.
To give you an idea of the breadth of coverage, recent studies undertaken by NCEPOD have been:
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Sepsis
- Acute pancreatitis
- Provision of Mental Health Care
- Non-invasive ventilation
- Cancer in children and young people
